What causes anxiety?
Scientists studying anxiety have found that there are multiple causes of anxiety. Biological factors play a role. Some people are more genetically disposed to experience higher levels of anxiety than others and several neurotransmitter systems are involved in feelings of anxiety. Behavioral and thought patterns also play a major role in developing and maintaining anxiety disorders. For example, people who have a negative experience at the dentist may become very fearful or anxious when going for future routine dental appointments.
