About Jim Carter, Ph.D

Dr. Jim Carter currently works as a clinical and consulting psychologist, providing services focused on Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBT).  Dr. Carter is a member of Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), and a diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy.  Since 1999, he has been licensed as a psychologist, and has evaluated and treated patients in private practice, hospital, university counseling center, and prison settings.  Dr. Carter possesses specialized training in the areas of addiction, behavioral pharmacology, MI, CBT, and staff training and development.  He formerly held positions of Associate Director of Addiction Treatment Services at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, and Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.  During the course of his career, Dr. Carter has also served as co-principal investigator of publicly funded clinical trial research studies, authored articles in scientific and trade journals, and conducted program reviews.
